Delta Variant of Coronavirus Arrives on Bermuda’s Shores
Word coming into TNN suggesting that the Delta variant has reached Bermuda’s shores.
TNN understands that on Tuesday, June 15, just as TNN’s Trevor Lindsay was was asking about the Delta variant to biochemist Dr. Carika Weldon, a traveller arrived on the island via British Airways and tested positive for the Delta variant.
TNN also understands that five new Coronavirus cases were discovered on Thursday, June 17 and one out of those five cases is believed to be the person carrying the Delta variant of the virus.
We dovetail into the question asked by TNN’s Trevor Lindsay to Dr. Carika Weldon on Tuesday, June 15.
Trevor: “You gave a brilliant breakdown of the different variants and percentages of what has landed in Bermuda. Do you foresee the Delta variant reaching our shores in autumn or winter of this year?”
Dr. Weldon: “I do actually. I have been reading up a lot more about it because we are at the whims of a simple, normal flight from the U.K. It would be naive to think that it would never arrive, but I think that we’re at a place where we can quickly detect it and we will know how to manage it. Am I worried, no, but am I expecting it, yes.”
