BLU RESTAURANT SHUT DOWN FOR TWO WEEKS FOLLOWING PARTY FIASCO
More fallout from the ill-fated dinner party that blatantly ignored and transgressed Covid—19 regulations and resulted in the resignation of two Cabinet ministers, as host venue Blu Bar and Grill Restaurant was ordered closed for the next two weeks.
Such was today revealed by Bermuda Police Service (BPS) Commissioner Stephen Corbishley, with the decision coming as a direct result of an investigation prompted by the Ministry of Health.
During Thursday’s Covid-19 Government update Health Minister Kim Wilson intimated that a review was taking place as to the actions and culpability of the establishment relative to video footage from the event that demonstrated a clear lack of compliance in areas of social distancing by patrons, mask wearing by patrons and staff as well as other actions that would appear conducive to the spread of the potentially lethal contagion.
While Progressive Labour Party (PLP) MPs Wayne Caines and Zane DeSilva lasted only a matter of days before receiving their fate in the form a firings camouflaged as resignation requests from Premier David Burt it took a week for Blu to learn its consequence.
“We executed an order for closure on behalf of the Ministry for Health last night in relation to the Blu Restaurant,” said Mr. Corbishley in a Facebook vlog. “That’s a closure order of 14 days … it does represent the serious consequences of breaching the Covid regulations and the position of Government which I fully support in making clear decisions and clear actions that if those regulations are breached there are consequences.”
Additionally, he noted that police were aware of numerous weekend parties having been organised and thus would be out ensuring and enforcing general compliance to all health regulations related to Covid-19 and the emergency measures that remain in place for the public, particularly those surrounding gatherings of people. Said the Commissioner:
“We’re not there to be kill joys but if it’s an organised event it has to be 50 or less persons, all complying with social distancing where relevant anything above that is breaking the law and will be shut-down and if parties are seeking to go above that there is due process and they have to take and apply to the Ministry of National Security.”
